Subject: Home test for cancer

Life never gets better, I never thought this day would come. They figure the earlier this disease is caught the better chance of curing or stemming it. With this move they think they can increase the number of cases where people live.

That's great. I wish they would find one for the flu and the colds that frequents us. At least I could stock up on my vitamin C and nip it in the bud.

The idea of home cancer tests make me a little nervous though. There are always mistakes or false reads - what happens if someone gets a false positive and freaks out? Or what if they get a negative answer but is wrong and they neglect to see a doctor? I'm not sure this is a good idea.

Exactly my thoughts. Too many errors even in laboratory run tests-home tests would be horrific! Then there is the lack of counselling or support when you get the results-this is not a good thing.

I always worry about the possible chance of an end user screwing up the test, even on accident I would rather leave something like this in the hands of pro's. There is a big difference between having a false/positive on a pregnancy test, but could you imagine one for a cancer test?

I think that the reverse is more likely-that incorrect testing will cause false negatives, not false positives. Which would of course lead people to thinking that they are safe, when they are really very sick.

It could significantly delay how long it takes for people to get diagnosed.

Why would anyone want to take a chance on the results of a home cancer test? I would want to know that this test is being done by a professional and I would definitely want a professional determining the results.

The answer is not something that I have lacy. It seems some people want to save time and money doing a home test but there are certain things (this serious) that I would not want to chance it on.

What do you think?
