Subject: | High incidence of STDs among teenage girls | |
I am alarmed at a recent finding by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, that more than 1 in every 4 teenage girls have a sexually transmitted disease (STD). It alarms me because STDs can lead to an higher incidence of cervical cancer and infertility. |

That is pretty eye opening. |

That IS a very high proportion, especially as that's an age group where sexual activities should have started. The question for me is why are they so prone to contracting these diseases? |

Its not that they are more prone, but rather the way sex is seen by younger girls. Most teens asked about sex do not consider oral sex to be sex. This means whole many of them may not have had intercourse they may be having oral sex on a regular basis. Kissing is also an excellent way to pass around STDs gained from having oral sex. |

I personally think abstinence is the way to go for teenagers but I'm not here to ram it down anybodies throats. One thing that is contributing to the passing of STDs is misinformation. Latex condom will prevent the passage of some STDs when used correctly not all. It is a barrier to HIV infections but there is a list of other STDs the length of my arm that condoms offer no protection or minimal protection. Frankly young people are not being adequately informed on that front. Also the pool of STDs is greater than ever and because of that the risk of contracting something is much greater. One in four is high. How many partners can you be with before the game catches up with you. Google Pam Stenzel she offers a great deal of material on the subject. |

So what's happening with the boys? I hardly think the majority of these cases are girls with girls and since boys seem to be more to have less pressure to have sex, I'd imagine the incidence of STDS would be higher. |
