Subject: | Hangnails | |
Does anyone have a cure for hangnails. I keep my nails neat and trim and I still get them. They snag on my socks and thankfully nylons aren't all the rage because I would destroy more of them than I could afford. |

It could be how you trim them. Often times you may be cutting them down too closely. Try not to cut them as short. If they keep up see a podiatrist. Chris |

I'm surprised that you continue to get them if you keep them well trimmed. Chris may be right that you are cutting them too closely. I usually get them if that happens. Going to get a professional pedicure can be expensive too. Wish I could be of some help. Smitty |

It could also be in the way you file them, assuming you use clippers than a nail file. Your overall health can effect the health of your nails leading to splitting and other general weaknesses. |

A good diet is essential for overall nail health. Most experts agree that biotin-rich foods such as eggs, soy, whole grains and liver will help your nails to remain healthy, along with foods rich in sulphur minerals like apples, cucumbers, grapes, garlic, asparagus and onions. Also, be sure to include essential fatty acids (EFAs) in your diet. Like vitamins and minerals, foods rich in EFAs, such as salmon, nuts, seeds and tuna, help keep nails shiny and pliable. |

Cutting your nails too short will cause hang nails and ingrown nails. It's better to file them carefully, in one direction. And a multi-vitamin helps. |

I used to have ingrown toe nails until my grandpa showed me an old remedy. Next time you trim your toe nails, cut a V in the middle of the nail that has been giving you problems. Cut the V as deep as you can before you feel pain. This makes the nail grow back together and pulls the nail back into proper shape. I don’t know if it works for all ingrown toe nail situations, but it worked well for me. |

Thanks a bunch. I probably am cutting them way too close. Born of frustration. That ingrown toenail remedy is something I'd never heard before. I suggested it to my Dad who is prone to them. |
