Does anyone know anyone with fibromyalgia? I dont know too much about it but basically you hurt all over, you get tired easily and when doctor's run tests they can find nothing wrong with you. It used to be people thought this was sort of a "made-up" disease but it seems to me that it has been taken much more seriously over the last couple years. |

I have heard the name before but never met anyone with it. Seems like it would be something that could be misled for some type of "made up illness" and hard to deal with if no one believes you after all the test come back with nothing. |

I don't know anyone with this disease being diagnosed due to test being run, but I know of quite a few people who they can't seem to find anything wrong with, in spite of all the test done. |

Because most of the people with fibromyalgia happen to be women, the medical field took it's own good long time before they realized that this was an actual disease with people suffering. They aren't just hysterical woman who are lazy and tired! Fibromyalgia is talked about lately as a sub disease in arthritis, because the suffers have joint pain all over their bodies. They also have a sensitivity to touch, which feels like pain and not touch, there is an over powering fatigue that goes with it and that might be because the pain doesn't let up long enough for these people to get any real sleep at night. Doctors also said that women were just lazy and not good at dieting when they used to see patients with PCOS. Just because doctors don't understand what the symptoms mean, it isn't true that the disease doesn't exist. The people with fibromyalgia were suffering from that syndrome way before the doctors had a name for it. It does exist and it's a terrible illness. |

My husband and I both have Fibromyalgia. He was diagnosed with it first about 10 years ago. I was diagnosed with it about 5 years ago. I'm convinced that mine is a result of taking cholesterol lowering medications. We have both seen arthritis specialists because Fibro is considered an arthritic disease. We both also have Osteoarthritis. |
