Subject: Ear Woes

I've recently started having probs with my left ear. At first, it would tickle and itch all the time. Then it completely slammed shut (no joke, my ear was swollen so that my ear canal completely closed up). The swelling went down within a day or two, now I'm leaking these clear watery fluid from my ear constantly. I have to keep a washcloth nearby to dab at my ear when I feel the fluid running down. And not only the fluid leaking, but I can't hear a thing out of that ear. Any comments? I'd go to the doctor but I have no insurance, and I'm unemployed so no money.

Wow, that sucks! Well, if I were going to speculate, I'd say you got some sort of infection. I'd try some drops to kill the infection--preferably something with garlic oil or olive leaf or oregano oil in it. I don't know about OTC stuff for this, but you could find some of these natural things at your local health food store.

Good luck. I hope it gets better quickly.

Sounds like an ear infection. We've used Tea Tree oil with some success. A few drops in the ear is all we use. Your symptoms sound serious enough that I would consider a visit to the doctor though.

I would look to see if there is some kind of free clinic nearby in your area. It sounds to me like that is something that needs professional care. You might be able to get some good free advice from a local pharmacist. They might be able to send you in the right direction.

I hate to say this knowing that you don't have insurance, but you really need to see a doctor to get that ear looked at. Your hearing and your eyesight are not things to mess around with. Even though you may have to pay something (they can't complain even if you just send them $5 a month), get that ear looked at.

Check with the hospital emergency rooms in your area, sometimes they can work something out with you. To be perfectly honest, it sounds like your ear drum burst and that is not something you need to just let go.

It can heal back, but only with the proper treatment. I wouldn't recommend trying any home remedies at this point. It sounds like the damage has already been done.
