Subject: | Diabetics and Blood Sugar Control | |
My sister has brittle diabetes and her blood sugar drops unexpectedly throughout the day. She works hard to watch her diet and takes her medication faithfully. Does anyone else out there have this condition and do you have any suggestions for her? |

My sister has diabetes and even though she is no longer on insulin she still has to watch her diet and especially her blood sugar. When she was on insulin her blood sugar would suddenly drop and she would have to do something about it, and fast. What she did was to always carry a candy bar with her. We would keep candy in the house too for just this purpose. As soon as her blood sugar dropped she would have to get candy into her. There were times she was so out of it that we would have to pry the candy into her mouth. Within seconds she would feel better and after a few minutes she would be fine. Make sure your sister always carries some candy or sugar on her. High blood sugar is very dangerous if it is prolonged but when a diabetic's blood sugar level goes too low they can get very sick, very fast, and some bad things can happen. Every diabetic should carry some sugar with them especially if they take diabetic medication. |

It must really be awful to have to live like this all of the time. My friend is diabetic, though not this badly, and she always carries around with her a fizzy drink. |

I have a low sugar problem. The doctor says I have to eat every 2 to 4 hrs to keep it high enough. Mine usually runs about a 50 to 60. |

Eating frequently can help control sugars, as does regular exercise. Making sure you sleep at least 8 hours a night also is a great way to help with sugars, as is avoiding alcohol. |
