Before you do anything else, get to your doctor and have a simple blood test where your doctor can find out if your blood sugar is elevated. He can do it in the office. You need to find out if you have diabetes right away. It will only get worse otherwise, it NEVER gets better on its own.

My sister was diagnosed with diabetes when she was 26, so we know all about it in this household. My mother had it before her, but no one from any of our families had it before my mother did.

Don't waste time in researching it before you're diagnosed, If you have it, you need help right away. If you don't have it there's no need to bother researching it.

Sorry, hit the button too soon --

If it's in your family or in your future you need to have your doctor check you. He can tell if you have the predisposition to get it. If you do, then you need to begin treatment to keep it from developing into full fledged diabetes. That can be drugs or diet. But you need to do the tests to tell if you are on your way to getting it.

Whatever, get to the doctor and see where you stand before you do anything else.

The American Diabetes Association is a good place to start for information.

If it runs in your family make sure your doctor knows that and when you get annual blood work done make sure you find out what your fasting blood sugar number was.

If you are more concerned ask for a 2 hours after you eat test. I forget the name for that one but your dr will know what you mean.

Why do you think there is a good chance you could get it?
