Subject: Changes in weather causing illness

What causes people to get ill when there is a sharp change in the weather or temperature? I have always found that when the weather goes back and forth from cold to warm several times, I end up getting sick. This year has been terrible because it's been rainy and chillier than usual all summer but then randomly we have two or three days where it's twenty degrees warmer then it drops back down.

My doctor tells me that the air pollution changes with the weather. We both have asthma and she says that she keeps a close watch on the air pollen count and it makes a big difference if the weather is changing a lot.

I would love to know why this truly is. It seems like its one of those urban legend things, that you hear lots of theories and no one actually knows.

I struggle with the winter transitions myself, but not so much the yo yo weather in summer.

If it goes from really hot to cold or the other way around I am in the same boat as you are. I have no idea why it happens, but for some reason lately its worse for me when it goes from nice to rainy, within a day I feel run down like there is no tomorrow and its only until the rain is gone.

I think it can happen because there are a lot of changes your body has to compensate for--temperature, humidity, etc--that can kind of overwork it.

That's what I've heard, but I don't know of any science behind it.

That makes sense, Halo. I've always been confused because supposedly you only get a cold from a virus and not from temperature changes or getting rained on...yet the cold comes on with those kind of things. Just shows that science hasn't yet learned all there is to know, I suppose.
