Subject: | Cat Allergy | |
A friend of mine is allergic to cats. It is sad, really, because he loves them and would like to own one, but he can't stand to be in the same room with a cat very long - he starts sneezing and his eyes become itchy and watery. Strangely, female cats affect him more than male cats. It does not matter whether they are long haired or short haired. |

I have never heard of an animals sex causing them to cause a worse reaction in people. I wonder what causes that. |

My husband is allergic to cats and dogs. We do have a cat and a dog but they are kept outside and if he doesn't have to much contact with them, he's alright. |

That's too bad, I would be very sad if my husband was allergic to cats (might be grounds for divorce... just kidding!). There are some breeds of cat that are supposed to be less allergenic. |

Is he like this around all cats? Some people with cat allergies can tolerate short-haired (or no-haired) breeds. My step-father is allergic, but they have 3 short-haired cats and he is fine around them. |

I have severe cat allergies and can not be around any type of cat no matter the age, sex, or hair type. Just being in a place where a cat has once been is enough to give me a reaction - I have tried all sorts of remedies to no avail, I just do my best to avoid cats. |

I know some that are semi allergic, they can be in the same place as them but not pet them. Is this a slow allergy to the pets then I wonder? |

I'm sure I have heard of people who go on allergy shots and pills so that they can keep their beloved pet. If your friend loves animals that much, he might think of going on an allergy regime so that he can have a pet. Maybe he might like one of those strange looking hairless cats? |
