Subject: Arthritis

I have arthritis in my knees and it makes it very hard to walk sometimes especially after I don't move around for a while.

It really bothers me when some people say that they have arthritis but it doesn't stop them from climbing mountains and running a marathon. These people feel that if they can still do those things with arthritis then everyone can, including me.

How do you get people to understand that just because their arthritis doesn't prevent them from leading an active life that not all people with it can do what they can?

I'm tired of people telling me that I too can climb mountains if I just believed.

This is so upsetting to me. They have no idea how much pain I'm in. I'm happy if I can walk a half a mile and back again to warm up my knees.

Not everyone is the same.

i know what you mean..a nd I empathize.

Sicne each person has different body chemistry and different level of condistions they often dont think about those that it affects more.

I had arthritis in my hands, until they found out that I had diabetes and it was a mobius loop of pain and reactions.

The onlything that I ahve now is sciatica... and on ocassion a mild twinge of arthristis in my hands from all the damage.

I found for me, often hot baths or wroappoing myahnds in towels allwos me to be able to sew with they freeze up.

Just do what you can, when you feelk good enough to do it and dont worry what others say.. you knwo your own bodyt better than anyone else and thats what matters.

If you can garden and get outside or even enjoy a swim,, awsome! If you cant,, try again a next day.....

live life as best as you can.. and enjoy what every you do....

I always tend to wonder about arthritis and that I will have it later in life from some of the activities I have done when younger. Are there any for sure key markers?

I have it bad in my hands and it really upsets me as I have recently found a new hobby (woodworking) that I love but is very hard on my hands. I've started taking a few supplements to try and help and I'm hoping it does as I would hate to have to stop doing it.

Several years ago after doing some xrays, my doc warned me that there were signs that I would have early arthritis. Already it is starting to trouble me in my hands but its not so bad that it bothers me.

I suffer from arthritis also and I have days I feel I could run a marathon if I didn't also suffer from asthma lol but there are days that moving from a sitting to an upright position is extremely painful. I quite often hear the suck it up speech but only you know how you feel and like myself I have to ignore others ignorance for some day they too may know exactly how you feel.

I think people who say they have arthritis, but still keep doing everything, are not suffering from arthritis.

They may have been told they had arthritis, meaning the area around a joint was inflamed and that inflammation was temporary, but not diagnosed with osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis.

What do you think?
