Subject: Ankle Rash

Yesterday I noticed that the skin on my sister's ankles were red with large red spots on them. Not the whole ankle, just from on top of her ankle socks (in a straight line from the top of her socks) to mid way up her calf. And not all around the leg, just about half the ankles on the West side of both.

It's so strange. They itch her, but she says it's not too bad. I can't think of what it could be. It can't be that the detergent we use on the clothing, the places on her ankles that have the spots aren't covered by clothing, and her feet with the socks on it are clean of the spots.

I am worried that it might be a reaction to the chemo drugs that they are giving her. But then she has been on these chemo drugs for almost 10 months and this is the first time she has gotten the rash.

She isn't eating anything strange or exotic. She can only stand a few plain foods and she sticks to those.

I just took her to our general practitioner and I'd hate to have to drag her back to him again.

She has a chemo session this week and I will make her show the rash to her oncologist.

Could the rash be a reaction to a PET scan she took two weeks ago? This is the fourth PET scan she has taken since she got the cancer and she never had a rash before.

What could it be?

If it's just on the ankles-have you or she any pets? Flea bites are itchy, and appear generally in that area and not where there are clothes. Sounds like fleas to me.

I had an itchy rash on my ankles last winter. It was also on the tops of my feet. By the time I was able to get in to see a doctor, it was gone. I've had flea bites before and this wasn't flea bites. It was pretty strange. I had it for about a week and then it went away as suddenly as it appeared. I never did know what caused it.

Even though this may be way out. The detergent may not be completely washed out of socks and her ankle is really sensitive for some reasons, so it itches.

I have a tendency to think it could be a reaction to the additional elasticity at the top of the sock. This happens to me occasionally with elastic waist band pants. Having been through chemo with my mother, her immune system is now down to nothing and she could experience a variety of oddities that were not present before. She is in my thoughts and prayers.
