Subject: | Anesthesia Awareness | |
My brother and I were just talking about this the other day. It obviously affects more people than originally thought. Anesthesia awarness is when a patient who is having a medical procedure is put under and is thought to be unconscious but awakens during surgery and can feel excruciating pain without being able to move or cry out and involves patients having some recollection of surgical events. It is apparently much more common than originally thought. One or two of every 1,000 surgical patients. That’s about 100 patients daily and 30,000 Americans annually. Unintended Awareness is when a patient wakes during surgery Heres's the rundown: http://www.newsinferno.com/archives/2728 |

My understanding is that it only affects 1% of the population. I had actually found information to the contrary; that Anesthesia Awareness affects a very limited portion of the population. I need to find that source. In addition, there is to be a new kind of monitor being introduced to the medical field that is able to alert staff if the patient is aware. Again, I need to find the source...I will post back. |
