Subject: | Allergies & Family Genes? | |
Can these be hereditary? I am asking since there is some parts of our family genes that we just do not know about but it seems I am the only one that seems to be allergic to a ton of stuff. |

According to my children's pediatrician, allergies do run in families. I was told that by breast-feeding my children for at least the first 6 weeks, I would greatly reduce their chances of having allergies like mine. The one that I could breast-feed the entire time does not have any allergies but my others do so I do think it helps. |

I'm not exactly sure what it is about not having allergies when they nurse but you know it might be the lack of exposure to allergens. Either way, it's a good thing. There's no doubt that there is a genetic element to this but some people have allergies spontaneously. |

My parents never got sick with anything until they were both over the age of 40, no allergies, no nothing. Now here I am in my early 30's and its like I can get sick if a tree farts some pollen off and I am down for a week. |

I get hay fever every summer and yes it does run in the family. Both of my brothers and my father suffer from the same curse. Only my mother is unaffected. She breast fed us all so we can't even say that it's her fault. |

I am the only one I know that can get a flu shot and still manage to fully get the flu when it goes around in the winter. Everyone else is fine but me, sick as a dog and they always pick on me telling me that I am the adopted one. |

I wonder why we hear more about people with allergies now than we have in the past? It seems there is a large boom in allergy meds now compared to 10 years ago, even the complaints have risen. |
