Subject: | Acid Reflux Attack Last Night | |
I always take antacids before going to sleep because they really seem to help my acid reflux. We had chili last night at dinner and I guess I should have taken a few more antacids before going to bed. I woke up at 11:00 p.m. with that nasty burning and taste in my mouth. I immediately jumped out of bed. I hate when acid reflux acts up like that. Are there any other foods that trigger attacks? I'm really surprised the chili did because it is really not very spicy. |

Acid Reflux is triggered by a lot me things than just spicy food. Fatty and acidic food are just as big culprits. Tomato products can also trigger it. Chili can have a lot of fat and tomato products besides the spices. Here is a website you might find helpful: http://www.medslant.com/Frequent-Heartburn.html |

Thank you for the website. As I read it, I could identify with many of the foods that are listed. I will make it a point to avoid these foods, especially at bedtime. |

It really can be tricky because some of those foods you would never think that they would cause your acid reflux to act up. It can be tricky but I always leave a big list of what I call "Bedtime No No's" just so I don't get tempted or forget. |

My dad refuses to eat mexican food of any sort now because he has suffered from acid reflux so badly after it. Even the non spicy stuff causes him awful pain. |

I know it can be caused by drinking too quickly as it seems in younger years I could drink with the rest of the gang. Now I need to make sure the acid from whiskey does not knock me down too hard. |

Over the weekend I had one drink (not even that strong) to celebrate a new promotion with a friend of mine and it seems I "can not drink like I used to". After one drink I really thought my chest was going to explode. Does this just happen more as we age? |
