Yet another reason not to go to China to support them as they host the Olympics. If human rights violations don't make people think twice about going to China, then maybe the fear of getting sick might keep some tourists home. I wonder what the real statistics are on how many people got sick and died, since China has the power to control their media. |

The public count has increased to 24, I do hope that enough is being done to check individuals who have been visiting China so that the virus is not allowed to contaminate this side of the world. |

EN71 is an enterovirus as classified by teh CDC. theet are been spooradic outbreaks of it in underdeveloped sanitation areas. It basically hoof and mouth for humans. Its spread by those who sneeze, cough or have contact with human waste. Its based on poor sanitation, like typhus. Though its more deadly in children than adults. Its treatable with certain type sof fourth and fifth generation atibiotics and anivirals. But where the outbreask are no one can get to them. Its not coming to the US, as of yet. But with international travel it mightjust be a matter of time. Purell anyone????? j |

From what I have read is this disease is preventable with basic hygiene and is treatable with antibiotics, just that those who are dying haven't received the treatments needed. |

Scary stuff is all I can say. China has sure made a name for themselves lately with the lead in paints, from toys to dog dishes and everything inbetween. Now this disease. With the earthquake that just hit, I can only imagine the spread of it further. The seafood and its bacteria....only reinforces my belief that China is one place I truly do not wish to visit. |
