Subject: | 1 in 10 chance of infection | |
There is a 1 in 10 chance that you will get an infection when admitted to the hospital. Can you believe that 99000 people died in 2002 from hospital-associated infections. http://news14.com/content/business/596042/changes-coming-for-hospital-infections/Default.aspx |

Holy cow. That will get you thinking won't it. Go to the hospital to get better and end up dying of a hospital related infection. I guess logically it makes sense with the varying amounts of diseases and sicknesses in hospitals but there is still an irony about it. |

That's no surprise to anyone who has been in the hospital lately. The name that the medical people use for it is a word that most people won't recognize. In fact I can't even remember what it is. If your doctor doesn't wash his hands at least two times each time you see him, then he can also infect you with something. I don't know if it is that we are all getting more receptive to germs because of all the antibiotics we use, or if the germs are just more powerful now. But it is certainly scary. |

I think its a mix of more resistant germs as well as not as many things to treat them with. When I was younger they used to prescribe antibiotics for everything. My mom finally said no thanks and found some alternative medicines. That you could die from something the hospital does to you and not what you came there for is quite scary. |

Atleast now I feel better knowing that not all my fears of being in a hosp is all paranoia. Three times you say, in what time span to wash their hands? I'm going to keep a close eye on this each time I visit now. |

I think at least partially it is due to the horrible shortage of nursing personnel in the US. Nurses are the backbone of the hospital and so necessary, yet they can often make more money by leaving the profession. There is something terribly wrong with this. |
