Nutritionist Joy Bauer just wrote a book "Joy Bauer's Food Cures: Treat Common Health Concerns, Look Younger & Live Longer" and she has lists of foods that will help fight certain diseases. I figured we might as well hear some of the lists so that when we are at the grocery store, next time, we will be able to pick up foods to eat that will help our conditions. She says these foods will help you lose weight: High-fiber cereal: Look for brands that include 5+ grams of fiber and 120 calories or less per serving. Good choices include Kashi Heart to Heart, Wheaties and Barbara’s Shredded Spoonfuls.
Cucumbers: High in water and low in calories, this cool, crisp veggie makes you feel fuller longer.
Egg whites: Full of high-quality protein, this super food will rev your metabolism and help maintain lean body mass while you lose weight.
Sugarless gum: Give your taste buds a shot of flavor as you prevent yourself from popping something caloric in your mouth.
Hot skim café latté: Because it’s hot, you’ll sip slowly, which helps you to feel fuller; plus, the milk and caffeine keep you energized. These will help fight diabetes: Wild salmon: A good source of vitamin D, this fatty fish reduces the risk of diabetes.
Turkey breast: Lean protein helps slow the absorption of carbs into the bloodstream, which slows (and prevents) blood sugar rise.
Soybeans: Rich in omega 3s, this perfect combination of protein and high-quality carbs reduces the risk of heart disease.
Nonfat yogurt: Rich in calcium, this healthy dairy product improves insulin sensitivity and helps control blood pressure.
Swiss chard: A low-glycemic carb loaded with magnesium, this leafy green reduces the risk of developing diabetes by 33%.
She says these will help Cardiovascular disease: Wild salmon: Full of heart-healthy omega 3 fats, this fish thins the blood and lowers triglycerides.
Bananas: Rich in magnesium and potassium, this fruit helps manage blood pressure.
Brussels sprouts: A good source of soluble fiber, these greens lower bad cholesterol.
Oatmeal: Another great source of soluble fiber, oats help control blood cholesterol levels.
Sunflower seeds: Full of soluble fiber, plant sterols and folic acid, this snack fights cardiovascular disease. Just be sure to get the oil- and salt-free ones. Eat these to fight Arthritis: Red bell pepper: Like many colorful vegetables, bell peppers are rich in vitamin C, one of the nutrients responsible for the health of collagen, a major component of cartilage.
Carrots: Full of beta carotene, this crunchy vegetable provides powerful antioxidants.
Berries: Loaded with anthocyanidins, berries are antioxidant super foods that reduce inflammation.
Oranges: A good source of vitamin C and beta cryptoxanthin, this citrus fruit supplies the nutrients known for reducing the risk of inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis. It can also slow its progression and reduce pain.
Pumpkin: This popular winter squash is rich in both beta cryptoxanthin and beta carotene. I don't know if these lists really will help any one disease. It seems to me that they are all healthy foods that will help you be healthy all over. Do you think certain foods will help any one illness? |

actually I do.. but its not a set pattern for everyone. Salmon has so many body healthy attributes,as does COD, white fish, Haddock. leafy green veggies provide needed b votamins for every disease and to keep you functning anything with C helps to maintain T cell production. thats why taking C tablets when you have a cold works. eatinga well rounded full diet fo food will help any disease or condition and help to keep it at a low complication incidence. I think isolating certain foods is a problem because epople think taht these are the only ones.. in books like this is often dangerous to consider hwo she broke thinsg down and hwo people may mis interpret the suggestions.. but a well rounded diet is imperitive since every food works with every food to maintain health. j |

Of coarse eating plenty of any one food will not guarantee that you will not aquire the illness or disease that it fights, but a well rounded diet of all these foods will decrease your risk. |

I think it's more of an overall balanced diet that helps people stay healthier. Unfortunately, between high prices and busy schedules, many people don't eat the way we should. I agree that books like this tend to influence people to eat an unbalanced diet, still. |
