Subject: Sustainable agriculture

You might have read about sustainable agriculture and might not be sure what it is.

Sustainable agriculture is a farm that's a self-contained ecosystem that produces food by not using artificial fertilizers and pesticides. It supports the land by not using too many chemicals.

Sustainable agriculture sets limits on how far a farm can truck its wares to market. That stops it from using too much petroleum and gas for trucking and using pesticides and fertilizers which are derived from oil.

These farms' livestock lives on grass on open pastures which stops the need for heavy use of antibiotics. Antibiotics are needed because the livestock on regular farms are usually brought up in crowded, tight quarters. The more they use antibiotics, the more antibiotics are needed because the animals get sicker quicker.

No tests have shown that organic farming makes the food more nutritional, but it does make the farms cleaner, and the majority of people who buy the foods say that food grown organically tastes better. In fact many of the famous TV chefs always suggest that you use organic and free range chickens and turkeys.

If you have ever gone to a farm that's a modern crowded one and then visit a farm that's growing their foods without pesticides and antibiotics, you can easily see and smell the difference.

As one farmer has said, the modern farm makes it unwelcome for humans to live and work there. The animals live in crowded conditions and the fruits and vegetables are dangerous to just pick up to eat. It seems as if the more modern the farm is, the more that it moves away from the land and natural living. It would be funny if it weren't so sad

With Sustainable Agriculture, farms are once again places that are inviting to humans. They smell good and they are nicer places to work and to visit.

It also provides a much better living environment for the animals. Some of the ways these non sustainable agriculture farms harvest and maintain animals is just plain sick.

Wow! If this is made compulsory, we will have a sustainable agriculture farms everywhere. I don't think it is practical as we need a lot of lands for it. It looks good on paper but fail on implementations.

No wonder it doesn't really take off.

you know these are called corporate farms. With the amount of food that teh americans consume and the amoutn we ship overseas its amazing teh coirportae farms do as much as they do.

What we have to remember is what you are also talking about is what the farm used to be, before suburbia began. More and more farms are being taken away to build expensive housing foir waht, little postage stamps.

Not many peopel want to farm. Some of us do.

we own 30 acres and we work teh land.

we produce, produce, wild and domesticated types.

It is also becasue teh mass use of antoibacterials and other chemcials taht suburbanites use to treat theor prteety lawns that we are loosing bees.

without bees we ahve amajor problem pollinating.

so while yo may complain about living conditions of animals, think about where you live,, on a once upon a time clean farm that has been turned into a postage stamp of environmental damage.
