Subject: Smart Choices Program

There is a collaboration with big food companies in an effort to provide consumers with more valuable information that will assist us in making better choices in eating better. Is this a good thing?

I haven't heard of this program, and I think that its a wonderful thing. People need the encouragement to make the right choices-this could help a great deal.

I am mistrustful of a program telling me which foods are best for me when it comes from the companies that are producing that food. Very easy to slant the information towards their products, I should think.

I agree that's a risk however we are able to research much of what is told to us these days since information is widely available, the only way they can hide it from us is to not put it on the label and that's illegal.

I don't see the big deal here, sorry. We will be well aware when a product has 90% fat, or something similar that the claims are false. These are things that are easy to check into, so they couldn't really make a lot of false claims just to pad their sales.

I think people are just lazy about it, most never read anything label wise at the store I visit. And it makes me wonder if they even really care or they lack of misinformation.

The whole idea of the Smart Choices Program is good. The next step is to get people to read the labels and use the information that is provided to make wise choices when it comes to their health.

I just want to know what's in my food-everything that's in my food. I try to buy food that has been processed as little as possible. As far as the Smart Choices program, I don't see the point. You know a glazed donut is going to be laden with sugar and fat. You also know that oatmeal is a better choice for a breakfast cereal than an over processed, sugary breakfast cereal.
