Subject: | Melamime | |
I was reading an article send to me by a coworker which described this product as something that is used in construction, it's odorless and it looks very much like powdered milk. It went on to say that the Chinese people are using this product in their milk and milk based products, as a result both children and adults are sick and hospitalized. Do you know anything about this product? |

Some Chinese people did this and those caught are being prosecuted. Somehow melamine makes the protein level appear to go up which was the benefit to using it, despite the risks of illness. |

The news reports I read said that over 52,000 children in China were poisoned by this tainted milk. This was worth the benefits? I don't think so. |

When I saw the news, I was appalled. I don't know the reasoning behind it, perhaps they weren't aware that it would so lethal. How could they know and still feed it to their children. It just does not make any sense. |

It wasn't something that was done for any benefit at all. It was done as a cheat-it meant that they could essentially make a weaker product, because the high nitrogen content of the melamine made it look like there was a high amount of protein in the formula. It made a lot of kids sick because the kidneys cannot process it. |

This was a completely unacceptable occurrence. It was all done in the name of saving some money and as a consequence children died. I hope that the companies who made the tainted formula are made to compensate the parents, and pay for the medical care of the children with kidney stones. |
