A neighbor was just diagnosed with Tonsillitis and I am curious if there are ways to treat this at home without losing your tonsils?

How old is your neighbor? My son used to have several bouts of tonsillitis and our doctor said that tonsils are almost never removed anymore until a person is older and only if it becomes a chronic problem. Simple antibiotics may do the trick!

My brother had tonsillitis as a child but never had his tonsils removed. I am guessing he was on an antibiotic that took care of it.

I had a severe case of tonsillitis twenty years ago and kept my tonsils. My daughter got a bad case a couple of years back and the doctor said that the standard now is they only pull tonsils out if the patient gets tonsillitis 6 or more times per year. They still don't really know what the tonsils do so they now hesitate to yank them out so easily.

I had mine removed when I was about 6/7 years old. I think now a days they put you on antibiotics, rather tahn having them removed.

I have had tosil issues since I was a lil girl. I have had my share and 2 more people's share of strep throat, which is tiny lil puss pockets on your tonsil's. I always wondered why I got strep so frequent. So when I was referred to a specialist. I asked him, He told me due to the kidney problems I have I can not just let strep throat go untreated. He told me your tonsils and your Kidneys are related, If you are prone to kidney issues as I am. The first sign of strep should be taken seriously and treated ASAP, or the infection from your strep will travel down to your only kidney and damage it more than what it is already damamged. I was supposed to have my tonsils removed, but I have already had so many surgeries, I am delaying this one alil longer.
