Protecting our kids too much?

Do you think we wrap our kids up to much and should let them get dirty and be around things that we were as kids?

I think yes to some extent. Being exposed to some dirt etc really does help strengthen the immune system.

These days though things are so much more extreme they play in the dirt and may walk away with meningitis.

There was always the chance that they could do that! Never stopped us. Though honestly there isn't much meningitis causing stuff in the dirt....

Things aren't more extreme today, we are just more weak and unfit, and doctors have been trained to scare us into compliance.

I think we should let the reins go a little more to a certain extent as well. Today's society though is much danger than it was when I was growing up.

Yes, nowadays we cannot keep our children out of our sight. I think we worried too much on their safety. We just got to let them have more freedom like when we were young. My mum really didn't have the time to look after me when I was young and put me in a big basket. And I can play by myself all day long.

I think we should. I believe children need to build up there own immune systems, and they cannot do that if they are kept away from every speck of dust and dirt.

I don't believe in over-protecting my kids. I let them get dirty, rough-and-tumble on the playground, etc. They are kids...that's what they're suppose to do!

I see how my friends raise their kids and I can't help but feel as if my friends, the kids' parents, are afraid of life and tend to protect their kids too much.

I have a friend who keeps pouring those hand sanitizers liquids on her little one's hands. Everyone has to get a little dirty in order to have an immunity towards many diseases but her child seems to always smell of hand sanitizers!

For some reason, I think that parents are too afraid to let their kids just explore their world.

I don't think that's a healthy way to raise kids.

I'm too protective on some things- I won't let mine play on trampolines or go swimming without me right there. But, they do play outside and get dirty. My three year old would rather play in the dirt than anything! And I don't worry about them getting dirty. It wouldn't do me any good, lol. My two youngest kids are like dirt magnents! I can clean them up and in twenty minutes, they are dirty again.

I think current parents are way too protective of their children, and I think it is having a devastating effect on the type of adults that are being created in the process.

There are so much more dangers than there use to be. With gangs, frugs, pediphiles and etc etc.

These dangers have always been present. There aren't more of them, but we hear about them more.
