Pain Relievers
|
|
I was wondering what type of pain relievers people use for their children. My kids are 9, 14, 16. I have varied results and wanted to see what others have tried.

I have always used Tylenol for my kids (1 and 8). It seems to work fast and leaves them feeling much better. I also sometime buy the store brand, which seems just as good.

Either acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen (Advil) will usually work. There's also Aleve. I found it depends on how the child reacts to the med. I have one that only acetaminophen will work and another that is only helped by ibuprofen.

It probably depends on the type of pain in question, but most doctors will suggest Ibuprofen or Acetaminophen before they suggest aspirin.

There are many types of childrens pain relievers that you can use, if you dont want to get these over the counter then pop to your GP and they will help out.

I agree that it depends on the type of pain. If it is something associated with fever then I will use tylennol, because it needs to be administered more often to help to keep the fever under control.
But Ibuprofen lasts for up to eight hours for the pain relief, but not so much for the fever reduction. So I tend to use that for teething pains.

I give my kids either Ibuprofin or Tylenol. When they are running fevers, my doctor told me to alternate their medicines and that way works better to bring down fevers.

I never gave my kids aspirin. I always used childrens Tylenol or what ever the pediatrician suggests. They are both older now, 17 and 20 so they can take adult meds.
