Orange Kids-Food and Drink

I remember a few years ago hearing that Sunny delight, the juice drink was turning kids orange. The formula was changed and parents were warned to not over do it.
Apparently even too many carrots can do it. Have you ever seen this in action?

Yes, my sister's son turned orange from eating too many carrots as a baby. It wasn't really noticable, I thought. I didn't hear about Sunny Delight doing that, but I don't think we have that in Canada.

I have never heard of this! What causes it? Is it food dyes, or the beta carotene in the case of the carrots? I have heard too much beta carotene is not good.

Any form of vitamin C can turn you orange, Including eating too many oranges.

If turning orange is the only thing that happens and it is a reaction that isn't considered "unsafe" then it wouldn't bother me much unless I got to the color of a "Cheeto". I've never heard that too much beta carotene is bad for you. I wonder how much is "too much"?

Wow, this is really interesting. I had not heard of this before now, either. My son used to eat a ton of carrots as a tiny baby, but I never noticed him turning orange!

How bizzare. I have not heard this one before. You must need to consume an awful lot of the product to actually turn orange!!!

In children its a matter of size. If a two year old eats a bag of carrots they have more orange per pound body weight than if an adult were to eat the same amount. For an adult you would have to practically eat only carrots all day by the bagful to turn orange. I never heard of Sunny D doing this and I agree, the children must have been consuming quite a bit to cause the change, not just the occasional glass.

As said it is all to do with body mass a child would have to digest quite a small amount rather than an adult.
