Healthy lunch options
|
|
I'm looking for some healthy lunch choices for a toddler.Something quick, healthy and that has a great taste.
My daughter is a good eater at dinner. She generally eats what we have within reason. At lunch though it's harder for me to get her involved in eating something that doesn't take as much time.
I guess I should be glad my daughter doesnt like chicken nuggets, and other alternatives that are quick. It varies by day to what she sometimes eats. She's had left overs from dinner and loved it the night before but may not like it for lunch.Lately all she wants is grilled cheese, yogurt, fruit, and PBJ. She's even had quesidilla's with black beans, sliced tomato and cheese and eats that.But..I really need some other quick lunch options. Can anyone direct me to a site that may help keep a well balanced diet and menu for a toddler.

If you're going to make a sandwich, I'd recommend using whole wheat bread and getting your kids used to it.
Avoid junk food at all costs - this can be very damaging in the long run, and highly addictive as they become older.
Also try to include a fruit in every lunch - it gets them in a good habit and keeps them generally healthy.
Having kids eat fruit is difficult; make the decision to go out and let them pick out the fruit. Kids don't like apples, but some love bananas, for example.
If you can't make them eat fruit, try having light or fat-free yogurt around for them to eat.

Thanks.
K to the J-
My daughter eats whole grain and we use whole grain pasta as well. She loves fruit and eats that daily.Especially mango, banana, and cantelope. She even eats broccoli. So, far she's not really picky with anything. She doesn't like eggs though.I've made them so many ways and she spits them out.She eats yobaby organic yogurt almost every day too.
So, I already use your suggestions. The only thing she hasn't liked otherwise is lunch meat mostly. She'll eat grilled boneless chicken and likes steak too. But, of course I'm not going to make that for lunch.

Just get your kid used to healthy foods.
Try raw and cooked veggies cut into interesting shapes. Try the spaghetti squash, put tomato sauce on it and kids think it is a different kind of pasta. Try some exotic fruits along with the ones she knows. Some Asian fruits look really pretty and taste good too.
Sandwiches with lean meats or chicken or turkey with loads of tasty veggies on it are great to eat for everyone. How about other nut butters other than peanut?
Get her used to low sugar cookies and cakes. There's no reason not to let her have these foods as long as she knows not to over eat them.
As long as you know that the foods are healthy choices almost everything that can be made quickly can be healthy.
If you do these simple things you'll have a kid who likes to eat healthy and you'll have the best thing ever -- a healthy kid.

Have fresh fruits and fresh veggies in the house at all times. Go to the store and when you get home get them ready to eat.
My daughter loves yogurt and fruit for lunches. Also pretzels are good and string cheese.
There are many options for healthy lunches.
