Going outside when ill
|
|
My mother insists a sick child should not go outside. I think fresh air is fine, as long as they are not overdoing it, and as long as they are not wet and dressed appropriately for the weather. I think fresh air is good for a sick child. What do you think?

If the weather is decent and they're appropriately dressed, then sure, no big deal. I dislike seeing children out in the rain or on cool days without a jacket when I know they've been battling a cold, though.

I think it's an old wives tale to keep kids indoors while they are sick. Going outside won't make you sick. Though, I wouldn't let a child battling a lung infection go out if it's very cold, unless it's croup, then it'd be good for them. :)

I have no problems with a sick child being outside as long as they are not so drugged up that they are not naturally aware of when they need to slow down. All the many meds now make a sick child feel well, and I think that the over-activity that could lead to at this time could be detrimental to recovery.
