Food Sensitivity Testing

So, my 2 year old has never been able to put on weight. After breastfeeding, he went to regular old milk, until he got sick and our doctor suggested moving to soy milk. So we switch to soy milk and everything was fine as far as him being sick, but still no weight gain.

At his next check we saw a new Dr. who suggested getting food sensitivity testing done to check if he is processing foods correctly. (**Not testing for allergies, but sensitivities which do not result in direct sickness but rather general discomfort). The results came back from the tests and.....

Sensitive to Milk...
Soy...
Gluten...
Wheat...
Eggs...

Yeah, try finding toddler food not containing that stuff! So now, we live at the Fresh Market, he has begun to love Goat's milk (yuck!), and our grocery bill has gone up quite a bit. However....

No more rashes, which are common for 2 year olds, at all. No more waking up in the middle of the night. No more fussiness for no reason. But still no weight gain.

Moral of the story, the $150 for the testing was definitely worth it and we would suggest it for anyone with a toddler.

I am so sorry you have to deal with this.

I am allergic to lots of foods and it does make life complicated. But complicated and growing is an improvement over not growing.

Good for you for finding a new doc.

Is the doc concerned at all about reflux?

My son went through some real misery before we found the source of his troubles (genetic). I hope your child does better soon.

I have a 2mth baby and it seems difficult to breast feed him as I am unable to produce so much milk and now he is on formula, do you think later on he too might be victim of allergies?? I am scared about this.
