A new study out shows preemies will recover more quickly from pain when cuddling skin to skin with their mommy.
In the study preemies were held up against their mothers before, during and after heel pricks and other painful procedures.

There is nothing as soothing as a mothers touch, and now it's proven!

LOL, another study on a subject that mothers and women have known from the beginning of time, holding any sick baby, child or adult will comfort them and calm them and help them heal! And holding them close, in a position where they can hear your heart and feel the skin is even closer and better.
If a report has to be done in order for hospitals to permit the family of sick people in to hold their loved ones, then this was needed. Also if volunteers are needed to donate their loving arms to ill children, then this study was a good one.
It's just too bad that a report is needed to take this knowledge seriously. It's sad that no one would listen to women's wisdom before this.

It is also a proven fact, that babies that are not held by their mommy's have a higher chance of growing up as detached from people. Babies, need their mommy's love and nurture to grow up to be a happy healthy adult.

Just look at the kids in Chinese orphanages-studies were done on them a long time ago that showed how harmful a lack of contact can be.
I find it odd that they are claiming this to be a new study. I have heard of studies pertaining to the positive results of Kangeroo care for a few years at least.

I really thought they'd already done lots of studies on this and "proven" it, so to speak. Regardless, though, the more people who hear about it and understand it, the better.

What if its just a revisited study and they figured a name like "Cuddles Revisited" did not sound as snazzy? :)

I heard this some time ago too. My elder child was a heart baby, though full term, she was in the nicu for some time. They were pushing kangaroo care then.

I loved to cuddle my son. He missed the preemie cut off. He was 3 weeks early though. He loved to hear my heart beat.
