Baby Dentist?

How old do your kids have to be before you bring them to the dentist for the first time?

Do you always wait until the baby teeth go, or do you bring them in when they get a few, to make sure they are coming in right?

My regular pediatrician checks my daughter's teeth. I think they don't need to see a real dentist until the start to grow permanent teeth, and that's mainly for cleaning purposes, not aesthetics.

Your child should generally see a dentist when he gets his first tooth, or by age one at the latest -- "First visit by first birthday" is a good rule of thumb, according to both the American Dental Association and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.

I've read a few things on this matter. Some say when they get their first tooth. But, by age one is reccomended.I recently read that as long as by age 3 when kids can really start trying to brush without as much help is a good time.

I've worked in dentist offices before, and it's really not necessary to see a dentist before the permanent teeth. They'll TELL you that you should go in, because they get a profit from every visit. But when a child is too young to get flouride or cleaning treatments, there's no point. As long as you're keeping up oral hygeine at home, you don't need to worry about it.

Bouncehouse, thanlks for the relevant onformation you have shared with us. Some of us know it to be so and as such we take good care of the baby's teeth at home, where the necessity won't arise to visit a dentist.

I have taken excellent care of my kids teeth, and yet, my 1 year old, who has always had his gums and then teeth cleaned twice daily, and has never had a bottle, has early childhood caries. I thought cleaning at home would be sufficient too, but it was not for my child. He just happens to have weak enamel.

That aside, I was told that around 3 is a good time to start unless you have a concern prior to that!

Now days they are recommending you take a baby in long before they have teeth.

The American Academy of Pediatrics suggests that children who are at risk of early childhood cavities should visit a pediatric dentist by age 1.

This is so they can check and see how the teeth and jaw are developing.

I just asked my dentist last week. They said about 3 unless they have problems before that.
