16 Year old w/Stomach Ulcer

A young girl who lives near me and actually spends wuite a bit of time with me has just been diagnosed with a stomach ulcer a few weeks back. Since then she has gone in two times to the ER feeling really bad. Both times she has been given pain medication and basically blown off. She also suffers from tonsillitis and has been suffering chest pains naseau and loss of appetite.

First off what would cause a child of her age to get a stomach ulcer and secondly why would it be that the Doctors are not acting concerned about it?

I'm assuming you are getting your information from the parents of the girl as to what is being done for her. I'm really surprised that more young people today don't have problems like stomach ulcers. They are under a lot more stress and deal with more issues that I had to deal with as a teen. I know from past experience that acid reflux can sometimes be severe enough to feel like chest pains. My sister has severe reflux and has made several trips to the emergency room. Also, pain medications can cause nausea and stomach pain, which would also lead to a loss of appetite. As a parent, I would want to make sure the doctors are ruling out all possibilities before just assuming it is not a serious problem. Also, I would want to try to find out if there is anything that the child is stressing about to the point of causing an ulcer.

It seems that more kids are gettin stomach ulcers because of many factors. Stress, diet and I assume many other things can cause this.

Stress--- and there is a lot of stress in younger girls these days.
They also saying worrying causes ulcers.
I hope that her doctor gets to the bottom of this and regulates this problem so she isn't rushing to the ER and brushed off.

Ulcers are often caused by the bacteria, Helicobacter Pylori, and so if someone in the family caries the bacteria, she may have 'caught' the ulcer from them. However she should have been tested for this bacteria in the hospital, and offered the correct treatment for it.

I think stress is a huge concern for young people now a days.

I went to school with a boy who had ulcers, it made him very ill. We must have been only about 12 /13 years old.

Infections can also cause ulcers in the digestive tract. Since she is suffering from tonsillitis, this may be the source of her troubles, and not stress.

If her parents were able to advocate for her more effectively, removing her tonsils might take care of several problems.

Many parents, however, can't really make the demands they need to of their family doctor.
