Subject: No insurance

I just do not see how some people can take care of themselves the proper way, or even close to it. I was just told last night that when an insurance company say with your work does not cover dependents (like your own kids) then you are pretty much OOL (out of luck) when it comes to getting them the proper things they need, like kept immunized for example. How are people making it?

Not very well. There are programs that are available for the extremely poor but if you are in that gap, you are, as you say, out of luck. It's a shame, but I've heard that the majority of bankruptcies are because of overwhelming medical bills.

It's getting harder and harder to keep insurance that actually covers everyone in your family.

Ella, I've heard that about bankruptcies too. It is hard to keep your head above water when you are paying multiple doctors bills and not making any headway on paying them off. If you have anything wrong with you chronically, you are sunk and you might as well get used to the idea that most of your money will go to the doctors.

For some reason I remember someone in my youth telling me that medical bills are not dinged on credit reports as "everyone has them". Something like that anyways, I take it thats not true huh?

I remember thinking for many that the upper middle class was a good place to be, now I see people not even in the lower middle class and I just think we are shunning those who need help. I see some programs but they all seem like crap, I mean who wants to partake in something that will barely cover 1/3 of their needs?

I don't like to think about socialized medicine but I swear it would be better than nothing. There are some people who have nothing and nowhere to go. I know people who won't go to the doctor or emergency room unless they are really very ill. I know one guy who actually sewed up his own cut to keep from having a hospital bill. There has to be some way to stop all of this.
