Subject: | Sore Throat | |
My girlfriend has a sore throat and a cough. She's taking cough drops but I never thought cough drops are effective enough. Are there any good alternative medicines - over-the-counter or herbal - that I can get for her to feel better? |

I'd recommend "Tylenol Cough+Soar Throat with Instant Cool Burst Sensation" syrup. The reason I'm gung ho about it is because it just helped me get over a nasty bug I had in just a couple of days. |

Here is a pretty good remedy I have used before. It soothes an irritated throat and relieves chest congestion and phlegm. The bad news: it tastes terrible -- it really does -- but if you have a persistant cough, it's worth a try. 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger 1 Tablespoon honey 1 Tablespoon apple cider vinegar 2 Tablespoons water Mix and take by the teaspoon. |

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll be looking into them both and reporting back soon [hopefully]. :) |

Gbyrd I have heard that the above concoction actually works pretty well. Have you tried it yourself? |

we use the follwoing. my daughter used ot get severe sore throats. 1 tablespoon of Honey, Sourwood is best. It has to have the comb in it. It adds a bit of something. mix with 1 teaspoon melted real butter. swallow by spoon full. Wait ten minutes before drinking anything. Another OTC medication, not alternative is Vicks formula 44 D. Its the red stuff. It works on me. |

Hey Jimmys devoted thank you for that suggestion. I have never heard of that but it sounds a whole lot better tasting than a lot of the alternatives out there. |

I use honey tea for sore throat and especially cough. Boil some water, put a teaspoon or two of honey into a cup, add hot water and stir. Drink it as hot as you can stand, preferably before going to bed. |
