I have a friend who is taking Saw Palmetto for prostate health. He says that it helps with a swollen prostate and he has used it for some time. I would like to try something natural instead of prescription but I don't know anything about this supplement. Does anyone take this or have any experience with it?

I use it but I really can't tell that it makes any difference. The only thing I have noticed is that the opthamologist asked me if I used it or another prostate drug when I had cataract surgery last year. I told him yes and he said that all of these type drugs tend to make the iris (colored part of your eye) floppy and he had to take special precautions. I didn't have any trouble when I had them removed but he said he had to make some type of adjustment to the type of instruments that he used during the procedure.

I really don't know too much about it. My mom keeps telling me to take it for the reasons stated above and I did some research on it a long time ago and was going to give it a shot. Not sure why I haven't but after looking it up it seemed like a decent alternative.

Thanks guys, good information. I think I'll ask my doctor the next time I go in to see if I'm on the right path or not. I don't want to do anything to cause problems with all my medications I take.

My husband uses it and has had very good results from it. He was going to have to go on drug therapy according to his doctor, but he started taking Saw Palmetto before his next doctor's visit. He was getting up at least 4 times a night and now he only gets up once instead. I know he will eventually probably have to have some type of therapy but for now this seems to be holding him steady.
