Subject: | Praying Over Chemo Medications | |
There's a new idea going through the cancer community, and that has to do with taking a few moments before you are hooked up to your chemo to pray over the medication for a few minutes before you get it. You are supposed to first give thanks for the chemicals, then you visualize the fighting chemo going into your body and aiming itself at the cancer while your body also helps itself by guiding the chemo to the bad cells leaving the healthy cells healthy. It's very much like the meditation you do when you are doing guided imagery. But then you need to ask for the time before being hooked up to do all this. Most chemo places are really busy and might not want to spend time waiting as you pray. Do you think that it's worth doing, or is it just another waste of time? |

I think that depends on the individual and their beliefs. It is proven that those who pray and are being prayed for in the hospital heal faster and pull through more often. From the Washington Post: San Francisco cardiologist Randolph Byrd, for example, conducted an experiment in which he asked born-again Christians to pray for 192 people hospitalized for heart problems, comparing them with 201 not targeted for prayer. No one knew which group they were in. He reported in 1988 that those who were prayed for needed fewer drugs and less help breathing. Whether you believe in a higher power or not, praying certainly isn't going to hurt. I've heard of other studies that say that prayer helps, too. Some people say it is God's doing and others say that it is the power of positive thinking. Either way, it will at least make people feel better. |

I think if a person feels comfortable doing this that it definitely can't hurt to pray. I put a lot of faith in the power of positive thinking as well. Keeping a good outlook on life is a healthy thing to do, especially when you are very sick. |

I never think pray is a bad idea. Sometimes we are all faced with very tough odds and if afew minutes could help, why not? |

That prayer would depend on the person's faith in whom they to. I had a pain in the knee since Saturday, I prayed about it and its no longer here. I thinkit depends on how much you truly believe. |

Belief and trust is what will give you a better chance at survival. If you give up on everything, then you don't have a chance of healing. Anything you do, that gives you belief in the possibility of healing will help. Positive attitude will come from prayer. |

Being Jewish we have different prayers for medicine. Often its just that it works well. Since prayer is positive its a wonderful concept. |
