Subject: | Lower back pain | |
I have a bulged disk that can cause me no end of pain. With price of gas I have begun riding my bicycle to work as often as possible. I thought I might have more pain as a result. I was wrong I find the riding not only reduces the pain in a very short time the longer rides are having a longer term effect. The riding for some reason is doing me more good than either the doctor, the chiropractor or the physiotherapist. |

I would say keep it up then. Back pain is often caused by poor posture when sitting and if that is how you spend your day it could make it worse. Riding a bike can help it stretch out. I hope it continues to work for you. Chris |

I think it depends on where in your back you have a bulged disc, and on how well your bike is fit to your body. A properly fitting bike will encourage good posture, which is good for your back. |

If riding your bike is improving the situation then by all means keep it up! The bulge could be the result of sitting the wrong way in the car or at the computer. |

I watched a thing on tv that talked about constant and not too rough movement of the legs helping to put your back in proper place again, maybe thats what happened. |

I've had back surgery and one of the best ways to get better was for me to walk. Sitting for long periods is very bad for you back. If you are stuck doing this at work your best bet is to get up and stretch. It helps a lot. Smitty |

Its good to hear its helping you but it will by no means work for everyone. As mentioned the placement of the bulged disc, bike fit, etc has all probably contributed to the positive changes in pain. |

Congrats on your back pain relief. I do not know how to ride a bike, but on the subject of walking helps relief your back pain. Not so with me, when I walk it hurts worse. I just WISHED walking would help it, I would be walking EVERYWHERE! |
