Subject: | How Long to Wait | |
At what point do you finally reach for the phone to call the doctor when you normally rely on alternative medicine? Is there a particular point at which you say enough is enough or do you play it by ear all the time? |

That question is a good one and I think that all people who don't want to go to the usual doctors have to think about that question way before anything bad happens. Try and find a doctor that has been trained in both practices, both alternative and Western medicine. They are out there. This way you have a doctor you can trust to help you before you get sick. I would think that you go to regular doctors if your alternative practices aren't helping you and if your symptoms aren't being alleviated by alternative medicine. You need to use common sense too. If your problem isn't severe, then you can wait and see. If it's serious, then try the usual doctor. You don't have to follow what a usual doctor has to say, but it would be good to get more information. The last thing you want is to have to go to an emergency room. |

I always try the home based therapies first. My ex mother/father in law were Amish and they have alot of brews, so to speak. Like boiling watermelon seeds in water, then drinking for urinary problems..it works. Warm peppermint oil for ear aches. That works too. However, I did find myself in the emergency room a month or so back with a severe case of bronchitis and I could not breathe. Scared the living you know what out of me. I ended up on antibiotics and an inhaler that I used for about 6 days. I tried home treatments and obviously needed more. |

I am not sure there is a specific time to wait it might depend on what you are doing and what the reason is your doing it. If its something like a normal cold I can handle that on my own but if I have heavy flu issues for a week or two and nothing is helping, I'm going to see a doc. |
