Subject: | Hair loss | |
I am fortunate as a man to suffer very little hair loss many of my friends are not so lucky. My wife on the other hand is experience a general thinning of the hair on her head very much like what her mother experienced. I have heard that there is a herbal scalp treatment or wash that can help. Has anyone else heard of this stuff and know where there is more information on the subject? |

I also have thinning hair. It can be from family or because of a vitamin deficiency. Her thyroid gland might be overactive or underactive, so hair may fall out. Some medicines can cause hair loss: blood thinners (also called anticoagulants), medicines used for gout, medicines used in chemotherapy to treat cancer, vitamin A (if too much is taken), birth control pills and antidepressants. Hair loss may occur as part of an underlying disease, such as lupus or diabetes so she should see her doctor first to count out anything serious. I've heard that the same Minoxidil (brand name: Rogaine), is available without a prescription. Both men and women can use it. It is applied to the scalp, but women have to use a formula with less of the chemical in it and they can't let it touch any other part of their face. But women can use hairpieces easier than men do, since many women wear them for fashion anyway. Or she could always start wearing hats. Hats are also worn for fashion and so there isn't any shame in wearing them. |

My mom was sick recently and her hair fell out. She is using a shampoo called Rozge GrowFast Amino Fortified Hair Growth Formula. She says it's working for her. |

I am also fortunate not to have this problem but many of my friends and family have had to deal with hair loss. Many have tried Rogain, but none have had anything good to say about it. The only shampoo/topical that I have heard works is Nioxin. |

Most people's hair begin to thin some as they age. Sometimes stress can cause a woman to lose hair. It was explained to me as the scalp tightens up so much on the hair shaft that it causes excessive breakage and thinning hair. Salons sell special shampoos to stimulate new hair growth but I don't know if they are particularly effective. |
