Subject: | Do Spicy Foods Really Help? | |
I have heard and read that hot and spicy foods are good for clearing your nose during a cold and also if your sinuses get stuffed for any reason. I have a rather low tolerance for hot, spicy food so I haven't been able to tell if eating it helps a stuffy nose. The times I have eaten hot peppers when I had a cold, I found that the spices made my nose run, but it tended to make it more stuffed afterwards. I've read that hot spicy foods are good to unplug sinuses if you have allergies too, but again, maybe it's because I'm not used to eating them but, after I feel like my head is going to explode and my nose runs like mad, when the burning calms down my nose is still stuffed, even though it did seem to drain at the worst of the heat. Has anyone here personally had their sinuses clear out and stay clear after eating hot peppers or eating something hot and spicy? Thanks for your responses. |

I also have a low tolerance for spicy foods. I have found that mildly spicy barbecue or pizza will clear my sinuses temporarily and actually make my nose start dripping. lol. Something you can do to help clear your sinuses or just a stuffy nose is to boil some Vicks Vaporub in an old pan with a small amount of water. The vapors will help clear your head. |

I love eating hot and spicy food. But I never knew that it will help in clearing your nose or sinuses. What I know is that it can really make your mucous very watery and it just comes out everytime you eat spicy foods. Maybe that is the reason why it can help clearing the nose. |

I have chronic sinusitis and my Doc actually mentioned this to me also. I have noticed it though on my own that spicy foods get my nose to running. |
