Subject: Depression Without Medication

Is there anything that you have successfully used to help you out of a depression, without having to rely on meds? Herbal, aromatherapy, something like that?

I know a friend right now just did therapy but now things have changed and its the first time they have been given meds to help and she really doesn't like the numb feeling.

I had a rough go myself, a couple years ago. I found that yoga was great for me. In part, it was the 45 minutes to myself while my kids played in the baby room at the YMCA. But it was also good to just have something to get up and have to go to, that really helped too.

A good friend of mine taught herself to recognize when she was in a depressed or manic state (she's bi-polar) and adjust her behavior accordingly. She was on meds in her teens but decided as an adult loss of libido wasn't something she wanted to deal with. It worked for her ever since except in times of great stress (when her mom passed).

Therapy is a really good help. Just having someone to talk to can do wonders. Someone who is un biased, who offers no opinions, but someone who can help you gain perspective.
