Subject: | Back woes...suggestions? | |
I have a rotten back...chronic sciatica and scoliosis as well. When I've gone to the traditional doctors, they give me a list of exercises to do and tell me to take four ibuprofen four times a day, which seems really excessive to me. I don't have health insurance either so it costs a whole lot to even go in for an office visit. I won't take that much ibuprofen either because I really don't like taking pills like that. Are there any alternative aids for back problems which are ongoing that don't cost so darn much??? |

I really could not suggest more than the exercises and I rely on Icy Hot, even though it is not always muscle related it covers up and cools the pain for me if I use enough :-) |

You might want to look at the cushions that are put onto chairs to make sure that you are sitting correctly and try to make your own. The same thing goes for making sure that your posture is correct. That is supposed to help back pain. Try and take warm baths to get your muscles relaxed. You can also try to do some biofeedback to control some of the pain. Biofeedback can be learned from books that you can get at the library. That reminds me, you can get lots of ideas from books at the library. All you have to do is make sure that your library card is up to date! |

I do suffer too, but I feel better if I just keep moving. Taking that amount of painkillers does seem very excesssive to me too. |

When I had my back surgery the Dr had me up and walking the same day. He said that walking was the best thing I could do to help my back heal. I would think that walking would help a sore back as well. |

I agree with walking. I have a bad back and all the painkillers in the world never helped it. I just try to walk a lot and try to not do anything that would hurt it. |

I have serious back issues, all I have to do is hold a baby weighing 15 - 18lbs. for about 15 to 20 minutes and my back is hurting something awful.I do the stretches and exercises the doctor told me to do. They sometimes work, but most the time they do not. I also get in a pool and do exercises to help relief my back pain. Most of which do not help, if they do help it is for a short period of time. |
