Stress

I have an elderly parent and I am finding it very stressful to deal with them. Nothing I can do about it but complain and then I feel bad about complaining.

Perhaps if you give us more detail on what is stressing you about the situation, then we could give you some practical advice? Are you caregiving, is your parent ill, etc?

Taking care of our parents is especially stressful, since it's such a turn around from what has happened for our whole lives.

Remember that you do have a right to be stressed, it's not anything against your parents, it's simply how you feel.

Have you looked into getting them to join some community canters near where they live? I know that there are many senior activities scheduled and you can find out about it by looking it up online or in the back of your phone book.

They have day care centers where seniors go to have their meals and spend time with their friends, and make new friends. They are taken out to places to have a good time.

These centers also have health fairs where your parents can learn how to take better care of themselves. There are also activities that help keep seniors healthy and active.

I suggest that you look into these canters. You will also get some help from the staff there and it will permit you to get some support too.

I will give you the same advice that I give to parents who feel stressed dealing with their kids day in and day out: take some time away to yourself as much as you can. Take a hot bath, go shopping, read a book, etc.

You should seek help as if your not coping then someone needs to help you before it all gets worse.

Stressful about elderly parent? Why? After all, she/he is your parent and you won't have a long time to be with her/him. SO while you can, start to appreciate the moments you have with her/him.
