Proper Sleep

Has anyone else heard that besides making sure our intake for food and vitamins are met that proper sleep is a key reason that people age quicker?

I don't know if all of it is true, but I am well aware that when I don't sleep a full nights rest I feel horrible the next day.

Well, then those of us with children are screwed. ;)

I think it makes sense, but then, our sleep needs change at different life stages. Have you ever noticed that elderly people seem to sleep very little, but also expend little energy during the day? And often take a midday siesta? I think they're on to something there...

I have read that proper deep sleep is as important to over-all health as is diet or exercise. The CDC experts have called sleep loss an under-recognized public health problem.

They say that there's a list of things that you can suffer from because of lack of sleep:

High blood pressure
Heart attack
Heart failure
Stroke
Obesity
Psychiatric problems, including depression and other mood disorders
Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD)
Mental impairment
Fetal and childhood growth retardation
Injury from accidents
Disruption of bed partner's sleep quality
Poor quality of life

This also doesn't help people who are in pain and so can't sleep, and who rarely get to be asleep long enough to get the deep rest that they need.

Gosh, I'm tired. I need a nap!

Yes, I have heard this before. If it's true than most people in the world are getting old really fast!
I love sleep. Some mornings when I wake up the only thing that gets me out of bed is thinking about when I get to come back again!

I have heard it and I seen where people who has much night life and work in the days tend to look older than their counterparts awho go to bed and sleep at nights.

I live in Australia. The harsh sun rays are a factor in ageing badly - especially here where everyone is exposed to lots of sun daily.

How do we get around this?

I am a night owl and prefer working nights and sleeping in the day. I never thought this would have an impact on me looking older, as long as I got the right amount of sleep.

I'm a kind of person who's not fan of sleeping. I like doing things at night such as watching movie and listening radio. My sleeping hours is only 4-5 a day. Does it mean it's possible for me to acquire those lists mentioned above? I'm scared.
