Getting Rid of Age Spots
|
|
As I am getting older I worry about getting age spots like my mother did. Is there anything that really works to get rid of them or is it just a crapshoot?

Aren't age spots usually caused by sun exposure and poor liver function? I would think if you take care of your skin and do liver cleanses regularly, you could avoid them.

Liver cleanses to help, but not as much as they say they do. And staying out of the sun is a must. Age spots are also genetic in my opinion and some will have them more than others.

Number one is stay out of the sun...but if you can't...use sunscreen! Creams and preparations with Alpha Hydroxy Acids in them help. These creams and the alpha hydroxy acids in them work to disintegrate the cellular binding mechanisms in the upper epidermal layers, allowing dead skin cells that have built up while you’ve aged to slough off and let newer skin cells take their place. Vitamin A applied to the skin in cream form also accelerates the skin's exfoliation and can reduce age spots.

An older woman I know, who is into natural things, told me that she uses fresh lemon juice and rubs it on her age spots. She also keeps out of the sun and never gets a tan.
She has to be over sixty and she has a lovely complexion.
