Dementia Drugs

My grandfather has been suffering from a fairly apparent dementia for some time and has been prescribed a drug to help ease the symptoms. How do these things work? I always thought that once the damage was done, it couldn't be reversed.

Have you, or another family member spoken to his doctor? Sometimes elderly people have different forms of dementia. Sometimes it is a result from medication they are taking. Sometimes it is a problem with their health and nutrition. Different medications are being found to be helpful every day.
There is a lot of research being done on the problems of the elderly because so many of us are joining their ranks.
See if your grandfather responds well to the medication. His doctor thinks that he can be helped by this medication and, you know, there is definitely a reason to hope he will be! I hope he is helped too.

There are medications out there that help slow the progression of dementia and also help treat dementia depending on the cause of the dementia.
Dementia can be a short term effect due to infection or the side effect of a medication etc, it can also be caused by brain tumors or as a degenerative disease such as Alzheimer's.

What is the name of the drug that your grand father is taking?
If you know the name then you could find out all of its uses, effects, and side effects by looking for them online!
