Ailments of Old Age
|
|
I am just turning thirty and thanks to observing relatives as they reach an older age am becoming more and more aware of what may lie ahead. This is in part what is prompting me to lose weight.
Did you know that diabetes type two is actually caused by insulin resistance-you've eaten so much sugar and carbs in your life that you burn out the system meant to handle them.
Did you know that you can reduce your chances of developing it by losing weight and maintaining a healthy weight from here on in? And the same goes with your cholesterol level-much can be done to keep that, and your blood pressure healthy.
I'm starting now at 30 so that I have a good run at a healthy old age, rather than letting the damage build up and then panicking.

Good for you. I too am gradually approaching 30. My older family members say everything goes downhill once you turn 30.
This last year I've been trying to eat better and develop good eating habits that will hopefully stick with me the rest of my life.

High Blood is one of the common ailments of old folks. That's why I never stop reminding my grandparents to stay away of eating fatty foods. Fortunately, they are in good health now.

Losing weight isn't the only thing that you should do to try and fight off old age ailments.
You need to exercise to make your heart and circulation system strong and able to keep you going for a long time.
You need to watch what you eat, not just for the calories. Get a blood workup and find out if your cholesterol levels are good and work to keep the bad and good levels at a balance.
You need to do word puzzles and logic puzzles to keep your brain functioning so that you get to be old and still be aware of what's going on.
You need to take all those tests that they talk about to see if any cancer sells are taking up residence anywhere in your colon or lungs or breasts.
You can be thin and still die. Look at all the things you are supposed to do to keep healthy.
But beware, even that might not help.
So maybe, keep praying for good health in old age.
Good luck.

That's a good idea. I'm always trying to get on diets but it never seems to work for me. When I hit age 30, or around there I'm going to HAVE to, no matter what.

Well, K to the J, most people don't do so, so if you do you will be a step ahead. It is not just weight loss that I am working at. I exercise regularly-both aerobic workouts and walking. I have all my recommended female workups as I have a bad history in both areas.
I don't believe in blood tests that look for trouble because more often than not they will find it. However I do follow a diet that should ensure healthy cholesterol.

AGING - as sure as or maybe more so than death & taxes. However, we can do alot to determine how we age with a little research and willingness to make some changes in how we live. A very interesting book "Reverse Aging" by Sang Wang is an interesting read. You have to order it through Amazon, but worth it in my opinion. I now own a water appliance like what he wrote about and my blood pressure is down, my cholesterol is down and I have lost a few pounds. As I see it, we can invest in a GOOD water filter OR we can be the water filter. I made my choice.
