Adult Daycare

This may be a growing industry with the aging of baby boomers and is something we may all have to consider for our parents, or ourselves.

Par to f me thinks it is a good idea, but the other part of me hates the idea of losing what I consider to be my "adult" status and returning to the "in need of supervision" state of existence.

Have you started planning for you old age? Has adult daycare been something you have though about for yourself?

How do you feel about this as a possibility during your "golden" years?

Many seniors with dementia and Alzheimer's need around the clock supervision. Unless you can stay home and provide this care daycare or supervised living is the only alternative. Its not the nicest idea and makes one feel guilty but it may be for the person's better health unless you have the knowledge and skills and resources to provide such targeted care.

It depends upon your idea of day care. Adult day care is not like the day care they have for children. It's a place where people can go who need to be with professionals to make sure that they don't hurt themselves. Yes, these place might have arts and crafts like a child's daycare but they have plenty of adult activities too and activities that can help people with arthritis and other things that are bothering them.

There is no giving up your adult status and it can help you when you get older.

My nan went into care like this and it was wonderful. It allowed her to stay in her own home for about two years longer than she would have been able to without, as they over saw her meds and made sure she was fed.

It reduced our work considerably, to just weekends and bathing and so on.

I have not yet started planning but that is a great idea and something we all should really look into soon.

Yes, I understand how difficult it is to lose your independence... However, sometimes it just so happens in life that people need help / care / supervision. It is hard to accept. My husband's grandma refuses to walk with a stick, although she has fallen and hurt herself a couple of times. She does not want to turn into an "old lady"... She's over 80.

I want to be at least able to walk when I am old. Adult daycare has never crossed my mind. I just couldn't accept it. I think I will have to face it if I really need them when the time has come.
